The story
Makhafula Vilakazi is the creative voice of Matodzi Gift Ramashia: a poet and spoken-word artist from Chiawelo, Soweto. Moving across Tsotsitaal, isiZulu, Sesotho and English, his work holds township life, Black identity, memory, history and belonging in the same frame.
His releases include I Am Not Going Back to the Township and Concerning Blacks, while his debut poetry collection, Izinkondlo ZaseGoli, extends that world onto the page. This store brings together objects from the Makhafula universe: words, sound and garments made to be carried beyond the stage.
